Sanlucar Club de Campo

The club is situated in Lomas de Martin Miguel at 20 to 65m above sea level and allows unlimited views towards all points of the compass. During the continued development of this area the club will have excellent sports and leisure facilities.

In the distance, the silhouettes of the cities of Trebujena, Jerez and El Puerto de Santa Maria stand against the white hillsides of the Jerez vineyards.

View from villa terrace

To the South is the historic town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, right where the Guadalquivir river meets the Atlantic Ocean. To the West, the Guadalquivir River exhibits all its beauty with deep green shores stretching to the Donana National park. And in the North, the river changes into swampland and rises up towards Mount Algaida.

The Sanlucar Club de Campo has been well laid out using typical Andalusian architecture on the villas, townhouses and apartments that surround the 18 hole golf course. The Club is also equipped with excellent sports facilities for horse riding, tennis, canoeing, football etc. The club will also boast four hotels and a shopping complex.

The Course

The 18 hole, par 72 course was designed by the multiple Spanish champion, Borja Queipo de Llano and combines two very different styles. The first nine holes display a lot of British characteristics, the fairways are tight with small undulations and the holes are scattered with small deep bunkers. The back nine has a more American feel, you will find water obstacles on seven of the holes, several dog-legs and two tiered greens.

The golf course forms part of the sports residential complex that started it’s history in 1989 when Alfonso de Hohenlohe sailed his boat up the Guadalquivir river. He had a dream to start a project called Sanlucar Country Club that would be a place to live in the tranquil surroundings with spectacular views of the river.

Behind the first tee

Several years later, in 2001 the construction of the golf course started and in December 2003 the first nine holes were open, the second nine were opened in late 2005.

The course is now equipped with a putting green and a pitching green area, the golf school is now open, as is a provisional Club House with changing rooms, Caddie Master, and a Pro-shop.

The course itself has a total of 7 water obstacles, with 5 of them being located on the back 9 holes. Out of the 18 holes, 9 of them are surrounded by lakes.

The greens are very extensive (750m2) and very undulating. Across the front 9 holes, the greens are distinguished by the small hills that make them challenging. The back 9 holes are a variety of two tiered greens.

The course has over 3000 different types of trees planted in such a way that they don’t interfere with your game.

Signature Holes

The 1st hole, at 402 metres, starts from a raised tee some 30 metres above the fairway. However the narrow fairway, with fields to the left and our Almenara Villas development to the right, deserves caution and a long iron from the tee is recommended.

The 4th hole is a par 5, with a slight dog-leg to the right, plays 500 metres. Again the fairway is narrow and undulating and not unlike a British “Links Course” hole.

The 15th hole is a par 3 of 179 metres. The green has several levels and is totally surrounded by water.

The actual course itself has been labelled by the Spanish Real Federacion of Golf as one of the most demanding course’s in Spain.
